Ian McColl’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’

“A Christmas Carol”

As seen on GoodMorningGloucester

The spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future return to Blackburn Performing Arts  in the  annual production of Ian McColl’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” featuring a cast of 40 residents from Cape Ann.
The family-friendly show features caroling and dancing as the story of Ebenezer Scrooge unfolds. The audience will watch as Scrooge transforms from his miserly ways to a man eager to share in the tradition of giving. The spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future lead him on a mystical journey through which he discovers the true meaning of Christmas.
This year’s production features writer/director  Ian McColl as Scrooge,  Daniel Diamond in two roles, as Bob Cratchit as well as the spirit of Jacob Marley and Evie Gariepy as Mrs. Cratchit. The cast includes children, teens and adults in an array of roles including angels, urchins, spirits, townspeople, and of course the Cratchit family, including Tiny Tim who is being played by O’Maley student Jack Favazza.
Actors as young as 4 and as old as 60 are working together to tell this story to their Gloucester audience. The ghost scenes are not too scary, and the show is appropriate even for the youngest audience members – and, of course, it comes with a big happy ending.
McColl is thrilled when he sees former alumni return to see the production as part of the audience, and has  been looking  forward to the day when the next generation of children would carry on the tradition of their parents by taking part in the annual show. This year Bailee Militello, who is playing an angel, is the daughter of Brianna Saunders Militello, who played an angel and a Cratchit child in this production 15 years ago, fulfills McColl’s dream.
The cast will perform the show a seven times over the next two weeks when the words of Dickens once again will ring out under the stage spotlight.
Cast: Isaac Aiello, Bonnie Barrish, Anna Bonacorso, Alexis Brown, Zach Brown, Briana Bruni, Katie Burke, Richard Crowell, Jake D’Ambrosio, Zach DaSilva, Daniel Diamond, Alexis Exama, Jada Exama, Marissa Exama, Jack Favazza, Evie Gariepy, Christina Giambanco, Rosalia Giambanco, Alicia Gibney, Ava Glass, Belle Graves, Alexandra Legendre, Jessica Lupo, Melodey Mathews, Clara Mazo, Victor Mazo, Molly McCarthy, Ian McColl, Bailee Militello, Stefanie Millefoglie,  Allie-Rose Nicastro, Linda York Robbins, Olivia Rodier, Sabrina Siragusa, Rachel Sternlicht, Sarah Urbanski, and Nancy Williams.

What: Ian McColl’s adaption of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens
Where: Blackburn Performing Arts at 1 Washington St. in the Blackburn Building in Gloucester
When:  Opening on Friday December 10th at 7:30 p.m. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through Dec. 19th. Tickets are available at the door.  $12.00 for adults and $10 for students and 65+

Hi Joey,

I love your blog!

I don’t know if this is of interest to you but thought I’d try.

George Hall, a Gloucester resident and guitar-playing fixture at the Rhumbline, is the lead guitarist for Kingsley Flood.  The band just performed at the Boston Music Awards last night and took home the Boston Music Award for “Best New Artist of the Year”.   I don’t know if you’ve caught them live but they play at the Rhumbline frequently, when they’re not travelling up and down the east coast.  In fact, the Rhumbline holds a special place in their heart…they love the crowd there.  Their CD “Dust Windows” topped the Amazon charts for quite some time as well.  Check them out!

Also, Jen D’Angora of Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents won “Best Female Vocalist of the Year.”  Tony Goddess of Gloucester is a guitarist with the band and his wife Sam Goddess is a back-up vocalist.

The awards were held at the Liberty Hotel in Boston and it was a sold-out event.

All around, a good night for recognizing some home-grown talent.

Thanks.

Gregg Z.

Erin Harpe and The Delta Swingers won the blues challenge at Johnny D’s. They’re going to Memphis along with the duo act Cindy Daily and Satch Romano. I heard a new band there “ThrowDown” and man they were wild, wild enough to get me on the dance floor. Thank you Gracie for joining me. All the bands were great and I know it had to have been a wicked hard decision to make. Blues like I like it. Thank you all!

Congratulations to Erin Harpe and The Delta Swingers and Driving Blind for winning the first round.  It was an excellent night of music five bands playing all types of blues. Second round goes to Gracie Curran and the High Falutin Band  and The Throwdown Blues Band.  The Lois Greco Band will be in the last day of competitions as well. I am so looking forward to this.

Allen’s first guest is the show’s co-producer, Peter Van Ness, co-founder gimmesound.com & Celebrate Gloucester.

The premiere show features three songs by Allen Estes, two of which do not appear on any CD. The original premiere, scheduled for December 1 at 6:30pm, was thwarted by a cape-wide blackout. You can see the premiere on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 on Friday, December 3rd at 1pm and Sunday, December 5th at 6pm. It will air again on Wednesday, December 8th at 6:30pm. Check schedule for more air times. After shows air, you will be able to see archives on this website.

Allen and his guests have fun with lively dialogue exploring creativity, songwriting and the music business.

Shows are taped before a live studio audience.

If you would like to be in the studio audience or you’d like to be Allen’s guest on a future show — or if you have an idea for a guest or questions to ask or topics to cover, please complete the form below and someone will get in touch with you.

Erin Harpe and The Delta Swingers  are going to the International Blues Challenge 2010 in Memphis.

All the bands were great and I kn ow it had to have been a wicked hard decision to make.

As seen on GoodMorningGloucester

Roaring Mary, a Celtic music trio with guest musicians who appear at the Pleasant St. Tea Co. on the first, third, and (when applicable) fifth Fridays of every month, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Roaring Mary consists of Lin Swicker on guitar, banjo, and mandolin, Steve Levy on banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and vocals, and David de la Barre on whistle, Scottish small pipes, concertina and vocals. They do traditional music from the British Isles–Scotland, Ireland, Britain, and Wales. Invited guests join them each time for additional tunes and songs. They have a Facebook page, Roaring Mary, with graphics etc. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Roaring-Mary/124771567541091?v=wall

It’s a great time and very cool for kids as well as adults in a venue that is not a bar, appropriate for all ages. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for all you do here Joey, it’s a great website!!

Sincerely,

Pamela Campbell
