Chris Langathianos

I’m excited for tonight’s edition of Machaca’s $1,000 Singer Songwriter Challenge. We have a rare night where 5 out of our 7 performers will be women singer-songwriters. Come on down at 8pm for what should be an awesome night of live, local music with the night’s finalist moving on for a chance to perform for a piece of the $1,500 prize purse in 2 weeks!

Greg Izor

A mash-up of Louisiana grit, Austin soul, and low-down Chicago heat, blues harmonica powerhouse Greg Izor is on a roll. After a successful run in Louisiana and appearances at New Orleans Jazz fest /Jazz Fest harmonica shows, Izor packed up his harps and set his sights on Austin. In Ausyin, Izor connected with the blues icons that have called Austin home – Pinetop Perkins, Gary Primich, Derek O’Brien, Denny Freeman, and Marcia Ball – and newer players like the Fabulous Thunderbirds’ Mike Keller, Johnny Moeller, and Nick Curran. He has been described by Living Blues Magazine as “That all-too-rare total package- a creative vocalist, harp player, songwriter, and showman.” Izor also landed the gig frontingthe legendary Texas band Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets

It is unfortunate to be misinformed and I hope that if one finds an error in this posting, please bring it to my attention so it can be fixed as soon as possible. Sincerely, Joanne.

Floating Lotus ~

Drum Workshop with Mamadou – Friday at 6 PM – 7 PM

Mamadou Diop will host a monthly Drum Workshop at Floating Lotus Gloucester. Next workshop is:
Friday, March 22nd from 6pm-7pm

Mamadou Diop teaches drumming to students and professional drummers of all ages and skill levels. He teaches the importance of the drum in the African culture to the community as a mode of communication and in the daily life.

West african drumming is not just music, but an experience of the heart, mind, and spirit. It evokes self-discovery, spiritual renewal, joy for life, and a deep sense of community.

The truth is: We All have Rhythm!
Rhythm is our natural inheritance. It exists in our bodies, our hearts, our breath. It exists in the vibration of atoms, the cycles of the seasons, the ticking of clocks, the orbit of the earth. There is no part of creation that is without rhythm! Mamadou thinks that the energy of the drum can help to balance the vibration of your body and mind.

A truly holistic healing approach, group drumming breaks down social barriers, promotes freedom of expression, non-verbal communication, unity and cooperation. Drumming awakens dormant emotions and unexplainable feelings of excitement, peace, and ecstasy. It decreases depression, anxiety, and stress, boosts immune system functioning, and benefits physical health.
