Hello everyone!
Wednesday, July 27th
Special Guests: ROCKY & KERI!
Rocky Kramm & Keri Anderson have been wowing crowds all
over New England under the alias, “Whalebone Farmhouse”.
“Rock” is a genius guitarist and arranger. Keri is a classic
blues diva, reminiscent of a young Tracy Nelson. Her voice
is as big as Kansas and stretches far over the rainbow. You
can see for yourself. Check some of these very cool vids…

Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party
Dave says,
This time around we welcome back Mr. John Keegan® ,uvula waggler and leader of men. Johnny K. has been very busy of late, what with his myriad musical machinations and Ebay Defcon Fives. We’re lucky to have him in one piece. He’ll be pointing the bone at you all night long. Its gonna be a dancin’ nite, so wear your thong and your Dr. Scholl’s. You’re gonna need ’em.
Blacking him up and chain smoking will be Mr. Gym Gwin, Fred’s brother (again!) on eggbeaters and symbols. He’s recuperating nicely from that conductor’s baton attack last week. None dare call it acnepuncture! John Hyde, jazz snob and loving husband, will be doing keyboard dooties. He’ll be a little tardy, cuz he has a late appointment at the tattoo parlor, getting ” Sandi” shot onto his forehead. Roomer has it that some mysterious sexophone guy might show up, too…who knows?
Of course, Greg T. will be there, vacuuming the gene pool, and me, too, on base, and ready to steal third…
Steak nite is over, brought to its demise since several noted Republican friends of Fred have disappeared mysteriously. So, Fred and Trooper have instigated “Cajun Nite”.This sounds truly great! so, this week, the Rhumb Line is offering a choice of jambalaya or popgun shrimp all at the unbelievable price of $8.95. while it lasts. Fred has installed seat belts on all the chairs. Troop is a really great cook, and plays a mean sax, to boot. The food is really good, you really oughta czech it out. Sure beats ordering that worm pizza at Domino’s. Free bibs for all you droolers. Do it!

Chantey Night, an open Tuesday night sing featuring members of Three Sheets to the Wind, Knockabout, and other music groups from the North Shore and the Boston area, has moved from the now-closed Cameron’s to the Cape Ann Brewing Company. The singing begins at 8:30 every Tuesday night. For all the schooner heads this is quite a thing to see. If you have someone coming into town and want to hear and see something very different it can be pretty cool.
Be warned though- don’t go planning a meeting or meet-up where you think you’re going to be able to carry on a conversation while they are singing. Best to plan it for a different night at Cape Ann Brewing.

PORTUGUESE ‘FADISTA’ COMES TO ANNISQUAM
The historic Annisquam Village Church presents Fado singer Ana Vinagre and her ensemble in an evening of Portuguese Fado music, Saturday, July 23, at 7:30 A traditional folk ensemble accompanies Vinagre on these folk “Songs of Fate” full of passion, pathos, and humor. Viriato Ferriera plays viola, Jose Silva is on Portuguese guitarra, and Peter Pimental on bass.
Ana Vinagre was born in the small fishing village of Figueira Da Foz, Portugal. Following in the footsteps of her sister, mother, and grandmother, she began singing fado professionally at the age of 13 as a member of her local folk dance group, Cantarinhas de Buarcos. Vinagre toured extensively with this group throughout Europe, until immigrating to the United States with her husband and singing partner, Jose, in 1972. Today, she is one of the area’s best known and most respected fadistas. Vinagre performs regularly in the Portuguese community for various community and private events, as well as at festivals and other events for a wider audience. She has appeared at the 2002 National Folk Festival, the Northwest Folklife Festival in 2003 and 2004, and a number of times in the Lowell Folk Festival. In 2005 she won a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant in the Traditional Arts, supporting her continuning efforts to promote Portuguese music and culture.
A tradition dating back hundreds of years, fado singing is “the soul of the Portuguese people”, as described by Vinagre. The emotional core of the fado is saudade, an indefinable yearning or nostalgia for love, times past, or a lost home. Accompanied by a twelve string Portuguese guitar and a bass guitar, the voice of a true fadista embodies and expresses the soulfulness of this music tradition. The traditional fadista dresses in black and uses a shawl as a prop to accentuate the passion of her voice and words. The genre developed in the port city of Lisbon where it was performed at waterfront clubs and bars frequented by sailors and seamen.
The Annisquam Village Church stands at the head of Lobster Cove at 820 Washington Street in Gloucester. Known for its fine acoustics, the Series is in its 24th year, and is dedicated this season to the memory of Houston/Annisquam artist, Colin Kennedy.
Donation $15. For information: www.annisquamvillagechurch.com or 978.283.6416

Dave says,
Sorry about the misfire of communication last week, but I was detained by the authorities for failure to adhere to the itmosphere. Never you mind. This week is really, really big, as we welcome Ms. Michelle Wilson, “Evil Gal” herself to our stage. The sublime Miss M has been a stalwart and fixture in the New England blooz scene for a long, long time and I’m personally thrilled that she’s coming here to town to rattle your brainstem and get those endorphins sizzling. She’s truly an amazing singer and bandliter. she’ll thrill you, too.
In keeping with our policy of presenting musicians who acually show up on time, we are thrilled to have Keith Lockhart’s favorite drummbler, Mr. Jim Gwin, Fred’s brother, who’s on hiatus from his grueling Boston Pops schedule. Also, Mr. John Cameron, whiz-bang keyboard millipede, will be studying every Dinah Washington recording ever made in preparation for this golden evening. Of course, Greg T. and myself will be there, too. You snooze, you lose.

Cape Ann Brewing ~ http://www.capeannbrewing.com/

Harbor Loop Concert Series begins his next week with Jake Pardee and The Super Session Band. This will be the opening act and what a way to start. Jake has to be one of the most promising musicians around. His persona and musical talents are as great as some of the masters that I have seen. Every time that I get to hear him and his band/bands, I am blown away. I hope that you will come out and enjoy the concert season beginning with this one.

Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party
Dave Says,
The Weal of Fortune tilts our way this Thursday as we welcome back Mr. Willie Alexander to our stage at the Rhumb Line. The ineffable Willie, the Godfather of Punk, is going to help us all work out on those parallel universe bars, and perhaps reach Valhalla with minutes to spare. Jump up!
Backing him up is his long time gritarist, Mr. Billy Loosigian, who’s been in therapy since waking up with an overwhelming desire to become an insurance salesman. Help him out! As usual, Greg T., pool boy and raconteur will be filling in the cracks, Mr. Steevie Chaggaris , he of the Napalmolive hairdo, will be doin’ the eggbeatin’ and myself, on third base, will be lookin’ forward to comin’ home. We’re all battin’ .350!
And then, this Sunday, I’ll be dragging the Geezerz® up to Glenn’s Cool Bar and Restaurant in Nbpt. for our debut gig. This is important for us! For those of you who’ve been sleeping under a rock, The Geezerz®, aka Dave Sag’s Atomic Cocktail, is my favorite unit of all time. Consisting of Dave Brown, slide shaman, Greg T., Speedy West glitarist, Meselph, and David Mattacks, on Skins. Unfortunately, Dave M. is recuperating from back surgery (really!) so Mr. Andrew Jones, a student of his will be filling some mighty big shoes.General Curtis “Lemay” Haines ,the Pope of Nbpt.will serve as our congenial host and will be tinklin’ the ivories. Glenn’s is the best restaurant I’ve ever thrown up in and I’m glad to be there doin’ my thing. But seriously, folks, Glenn’s is a fabulous bistro. The food, the people ,the music, and the sightlines are the best!.Peel your ass off the bridge and drive the lousy 45 minutes up there… it’s really worth it. Ya gotta make reservations or you won’t get in. See ya then!!
