In the world’s first Tuareg-language fiction film, American filmmaker Christopher Kirkley and self-taught Tuareg musician Mdou Moctar transform the late great Prince’s staple vehicle from rock drama into spiritual odyssey. Filmed in the Nigerian city of Agadez, Moctar portrays a mysterious, motorcycle-riding, purple-robed musician trying to make a name for himself in the city “where guitars are king”. Featuring a pre-show concert by Pop Life (Brian King, Dan King, Renée Dupuis, Dennis Monagle, and Tony Goddess).

CLOCK STRIKES TEN WILL BRING GLOUCESTER THREE SETS OF CLASSIC CHEAP TRICK TUNES THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD AT HOUSE OF MITCH STARTING AT 9PM.

If you love the hits, or you love the deep cuts, they’ve got ’em all!  This is the first Gloucester show for Clock Strikes Ten which has been nominated as “Tribute Band of The Year” for six years running.  Clock Strikes Ten features Gloucester local Tony Goddess (Papas Fritas, Jenny Dee & the Delinquents) on bass, Boston-based John Powhida (The Rudds, John Powhida International Airport) on lead vocals and guitar, John Brookhouse (The Dirty Truckers, Worshipper) on lead guitar, and Johnny “Rock” Lynch (The Neighborhoods, Watts) on drums.  9pm start.

Concert Across America: Gloucester, MA edition

on september 25, artists and activists from coast to coast will band together for the Concert Across America to #EndGunViolence with a series of live concerts brought together by social media. our purpose is to use music to honor and remember the victims of gun violence and to bring heightened visibility to this serious problem. all events will be shared via social media during the day.

gloucester is participating in this nationwide day of awareness by holding a concert at Mile Marker One and welcome the following artisits who have graciously agreed to play as part of this important and fun day: Allen EstesMarina Evans Fozzie Hill, Jon Butcher and John Raymond Jerome! the event is free to the public, but we will gladly accept donations, the proceeds of which will go to the North Shore Health Project. we will be holding a 50/50 raffle as well.

join us as we bring awareness to the epidemic of gun violence and to encourage national lawmakers to work toward sensible gun laws. while this is not a political event, we will welcome our local lawmakers, and invite them to share their thoughts throughout the afternoon.

Bands include: Charlee Bianchini with Jack Tomaiolo at about 2PM, Daisy Nell and Captain Stan at about 3PM, Essex Choral Society with Michael March and Dave Driscoll at about 4 PM, and Day Job with Sarah Willwerth-Dyer from about 5-7PM.
Kids can participate in fun activities based on the new book, “Tilly and the Pirates” by Daisy Nell and George Ulrich. Make a Captain Tilly hat! Daisy will read “Tilly and the Pirates” at 3PM.

BAND CAMP/essex 2016

BAND CAMP/essex is back.

This year’s edition will feature Silent Trees, The Bordellos, Just Like Newman and the return of Southbound – last year’s favorite – a tribute to the Allman Brothers.

Once again, the event will take place on Peter Hoare’s expansive property in Essex, MA, and guests are encouraged to come, enjoy the music and bring food and beverages and camp overnight.

More acts information to follow, but be sure to save the date for this incredible, annual event. There is a suggested donation of $20 to cover the cost of insurance, equipment, porta-potties and other assorted amenities.

In the event of inclement weather, BAND CAMP will take place the next weekend.

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents

CAPE ANN BIG BAND

Concert to benefit GMF Fire-Sprinkler Project

This diverse 17-piece big band entertains and delights audiences with danceable music infused with jazz, swing, New Orleans street bands, soul, and rock n’ roll that will bring you back in time. Known for operating like a family, Cape Ann Big Band prides itself with having a repertoire that has no boundaries. Their program includes such classics as “Mack the Knife,” “I’ve Got You Under my Skin,” and “Take the A Train.”

* Nine great outdoor concerts to benefit nine local non-profits.

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation presents a series of 9 free concerts on the Meetinghouse Green at the corner of Church and Middle Street, from July 8 to September 2, 2016. The public is invited to make free-will donations to Cape Ann non-profit organizations partnered with each concert.

The family-friendly concerts begin at 6 pm. Bring a picnic, folding chairs or blankets. In case of rain, the events will take place inside the Meetinghouse (no food or drink permitted.)
