The Kate Barry Jazz Trio will perform on Saturday, March 22, at 7:30 PM. Suggested donation is $10. Doors open at 7:00.

The group, based out of Gloucester and performing throughout the North Shore, consists of Kate Barry’s mesmerizing vocals, Steve Lacey on guitar, and Zach Gorrell on piano and sax.
Kate, Steve, and Zach, who all have strong ties to the area and attended area schools, studied with local jazz icons Tony Wolff, Mike Tucker, and Charlie and Margaret Banacos. Those studies led to the trio being formed in the fall of 2013. They have played regularly ever since, developing their sound and group dynamics to create a unique and enjoyable listening experience for both novice and experienced jazz fans. They draw influences from a variety of genres and styles, as seen through their diverse repertoire and the uniqueness of each member’s contribution.

I’m psyched this week cuz my favorite gaggle of comedic cats are showing up for another roast. It’s been a long time so let’s welcome back Mr. Ricky “King” Russell. Ricky had a terrible accident a while ago at CERN when a stray Higgs boson collided with one of his guitar licks,splitting several atoms and his pants. His tailor has pronounced him fit to play.
Next, there’s “Mr.Ed” Scheer, equine vocalist and world’s foremost Diaperene® expert, on drums. Ed is always laughing at anything I say, even when it’s not funny. Go figure.
Then, girls, there’s “Super Mario” Perrett, former rockstar and Hai Karate© spokesmodel, on tenor sax. Gawd, he is so handsome! See for yourself.
And finally, there’s me, but you know that. But seriously, folks, I love these guys; they all play and sing so well, and laugh so loud. I nearly choked to death on my fifth drink last time. You will, too. Come early and stay late! We hit at 8 P.M.

Known for their gorgeous three-part harmonies blending bluegrass with a touch of western swing, the Americana trio Red Molly brings audiences to their feet with crisp musicianship and warm, engaging stage presence. The band consists of Laurie MacAllister (bass, banjo), Abbie Gardner (dobro, banjo), and Molly Venter (guitar). This past year, the ladies were invited to open for music legend Willie Nelson and they performed at the venerable RockyGrass festival in Colorado. Their new CD Light in the Sky spent 20 weeks on the Americana Music Association’s Top 40 radio chart and charted as Folk DJ’s #3 Top Album of 2012. This year, the band toured throughout Australia and Denmark and have been invited for return appearances at North Carolina’s legendary music gathering—MerleFest and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion.

What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? is like an alchemical experiment. The band fuses and integrates different genres, theories and ideas, creating new recipes to unlock hearts and unify a room. In one set the ensemble can travel from an acoustic coffeehouse to New Orleans soul, from gothic blues to a Middle Eastern desert or the woods of medieval France. Named after a Victorian children’s game, and anchored by the “haunting, chameleon-like voice” (Metronome) of singer-songwriter front-man, Brian King, the band spins new fairy tales and steeps them in folk noir and neo-cabaret. Many songs are bustling with memorable characters like a boy who turns into a cartoon or a woman who rescues herself from a tower, while others, pure and vulnerable, “deftly explore themes of love, sexuality and identity.” (Bay Windows)
Born in Gloucester, Brian King grew up with a love of the mystical. Enamored with The Wizard of Oz, King couldn’t decide who we wanted to be more, Dorothy or the Wicked Witch. Throughout his teen years Brian fell in love with the music of Siouxsie & the Banshees, Kate Bush, and later Leonard Cohen, Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell. His diary was documented in piles of cassettes containing hours of original music recorded on a Tascam 4-track.
