Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Alex Anthony’s country/folk rock inspiration comes from Ray Lamontagne, James Taylor, Van Morrison, Damien Rice, and City & Colour. In 2015 Alex toured half the country playing at famous venues such as “The Wanted Saloon” in Nashville, TN and “Gypsy Sally’s” in Washington D.C. After releasing the single “Burning in the Sun” as 7 Mile Drive in 2013, Alex’s original tune garnered radio air time on 9.25 The River.

Connor Garvey has the amiable presence of an entertainer, the lyrical depth of a poet, and the enchantment of a storyteller. First time listeners often are drawn to Garvey’s engaging performance style, accomplished musicianship, and memorable melodies. But his lyrics project a depth and sincerity that allow the observant listener to find meaning beyond the catchy hook.
Putnam Smith could be an old-world troubadour fresh from the 19th Century. After all, he lives in a log cabin, plays his Grandfather’s banjo, and prints up the jackets to his CDs on an antique letterpress. Yet this rootsy multi-instrumentalist songwriter (he also writes and performs on guitar, mandolin, fretless banjo, and piano), steeped as he is in Appalachian traditions, is very much a storyteller for the modern age.

Third Saturday Contra Dance
Details
The next Cape Ann Contra Dance will be Saturday, May 20. This is part of an ongoing series of third Saturday dances at the Magnolia Library Community Center, 1 Lexington Avenue, Gloucester, MA.
The dancing starts at 7:00 PM. No experience is necessary. All dances are taught. Dancers of all ages are welcome; attendees range from eight years to 80 plus years! Everyone has a great time listening and dancing to the live music provided by the Cape Ann Contra Band and Friends.
There is a requested donation of $10 per dancer, dancers younger than 16 are free.
Sit-in musicians are also welcome. We ask sit-ins to make a donation as well to help with the overhead.

We are proud to announce the Cape Ann Maritime Partnership (CAMP), a partnership between NOAA Marine Debris Program members, USCG members, Maritime Gloucester, Seaside Sustainability, Gloucester’s Clean City Commission members, and One Ocean One Love Shop – a local, conservation-minded retail shop. We created this organization to help raise funding to purchase and maintain innovative technologies that we plan to install in Gloucester harbor this summer to assist in collecting marine debris. More specifically, the Seabin and the Marine Skimmer. These technologies will collect marine pollution 24/7, all year round. We also plan to use data collected from the debris to help educate the local community as well as tourists visiting Cape Ann.
We invite you to join us at Mile Marker One’s bridge deck on Thursday, May 4th 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Proceeds from this event will help assist with the funding of our initiative to help clean up our local harbors. This event will be free of charge and open to the public. Fund raising will be possible thanks to Mile Marker One’s generous donation of 10% of all food and beverage sales. We will also be hosting a 50/50 raffle, as well as lots of great raffle items that have been donated from local establishments. Last but not least, we will be enjoying music donated by the local reggae band Pier Ave! Hope to see you all there!
