Welcome Sawaari to Floating Lotus Glocuester!
Friday, October 19th 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Meaning “to ride” in Hindu, Sawaari invites audiences to be transported into a world of rhythm and sound that knows no borders, no limitations. They explore the nexus of Indian taals, Arabic maqams, and trance music from North Africa and Italy, fully encompassing the varied interests and backgrounds of its band members:
Fabio Pirozzolo (vocals and percussion)
Jussi Reijonen (oud)
Mike Rivard (sintir and double bass)
Amit Kavthekar (tabla)
With an emphasis on rhythm, the music they create together has a searching, exploratory quality that brings together the meditative with the energetic, taking the listener from sparse tranquility to complex syncopations in an moment.
The group is joined by special guest Andy Bergman (saxophone, clarinet).
Come experience the musical journey ♥

Kristen Ford: Under The Rainbow LGBTQ Coffeehouse
Mondays 6:30pm; doors/potluck 7:30pm: music
We’re back! Join us as we kick of the new season of our Under The Rainbow LGBTQ Coffeehouse with national touring artist, Kristen Ford. Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Kristen Ford plays indie rock which teeters into americana, electronic and pop. Her high energy live show as a one woman looping band has brought her to 48 states and 6 countries. No stranger to the recording studio, she has a slew of songs under her belt, her latest “Travel Songs” released on The Nation of Love Records. Kristen has shared the stage with such artists as Betty Who, Melissa Ferrick, And the Kids, Seth Glier and performed at such festivals as National Women’s Music Festival, Ohio Lesbian Festival, Brooklyn Pride, Mile of Music and Concerts on the Dock. Solo or leading a rock band, Kristen’s live shows are not to be missed, wherever the road shall lead.
“I am beyond excited that Kristen is stopping in Gloucester to perform for our coffeehouse,” says host Brian King. “She is an incredibly dynamic performer and songwriter, a live phenomenon. She builds live loops better than anyone I’ve ever heard to create the sound of an entire band. She’s astonishing to watch and hear. Jaws will drop.”
Since Spring 2017, the North Shore Health Project has been hosting “Under the Rainbow,” a LGBTQ+ coffeehouse the first Monday of the month from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The night is a chance for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, nonbinary, 2spirit, and allies) folks to gather in the North Shore Health Project’s living room, share food and conversation, and listen to live music. Every month, the all ages, alcohol-free series features a LGBTQ singer-songwriter who performs a 30-minute set of original songs and stories inspired by their life experiences. Free and confidential HIV and STI testing are also available in another room throughout the evening. NSHP was recently awarded a grant from the Boston chapter of the Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence to help fund the series.
Free confidential HIV, STI, Hepatitis C testing available in another room throughout the evening.
The North Shore Health Project (NSHP) has been providing services for people living with HIV since 1988, including medical case management, congregate meals, nutrition, emergency funds, and holistic treatment like acupuncture and massage. In the last decade, the organization has grown to include services for people living with Hepatitis C, and a new needle exchange site called “One Stop” which offers overdose prevention, Narcan training, and testing for HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C.
WHAT: Under The Rainbow LGBTQ+ Coffeehouse
WHEN: First Mondays 6:30pm; doors/potluck 7:30pm: music
