Agrippina

by Handel Pre-concert talk, 12 PM In the Met’s first-ever performances of Agrippina, Handel’s satire of sex and power politics, Sir David McVicar reconceives a production he originally created for the Monnaie in Brussels in 2000, evoking a scandalous world in which the Roman Empire never fell but simply kept going right up to the present. The production is brought to life by Joyce DiDonato as the power-hungry empress Agrippina, Brenda Rae as the scheming, seductive Poppea, and Kate Lindsey as the feckless teenager Nerone. LEARN MORE

The 18-piece Beantown Swing Orchestra specializes in performing big band music from the Swing Era, one of the most popular and sophisticated forms of American music ever created.  With most of its musicians in their teens and early twenties, the orchestra is a true representation of the young and energetic big bands of the 1930s.  In helping to further its mission of perpetuating this great music and exposing it to younger generations, the orchestra offers music workshops and presentations to various local high schools, including Rockport, where it trains and recruits new players regularly.  Featured in this concert will be vocalist Rhiannon Hurst and guitarist Perry Wilson, both current Rockport High School students.

Holiday Concert with Chelsea Berry December 14 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

« MYSCHYFFE MANAGED HOLIDAY CONCERT

Chelsea Berry: Saturday, December 14, 2019. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., performance begins as 7 p.m. $30 ticket. Chelsea Berry is a singer-songwriter with the edge, power, and finesse of legends. Her presence has been described by listeners as “compelling… she draws the entire house into her world like moths to a flame.” As a vocalist and performer, she evokes the style of artists such as Cheryl Crow, Eva Cassidy, KD Lang, and Melissa Etheridge.

Singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor calls her vocals “world class” and says of Berry, “A voice of remarkable power and control with a joyous soul. Brave and bright, Chelsea Berry is the real thing.” A favorite among venue owners up and down the East coast, Berry’s beautiful voice and commanding stage presence has brought her across the U.S. as regular support for Livingston and others as well as headliner of her own shows. Born and raised in Alaska, she now makes her home in Essex, MA.

Her music transcends its indie rock roots and touches listeners with its poetic lyric, bold melodies, and pure, clear, powerful vocals. Singer/songwriter Chris Smither says Berry is “..Great, talented, beautiful … her future is so bright you’re gonna have to wear shades.”

Berry has appeared on the cover of Boston magazines such as The Noise and Northshore Magazine. She has been featured multiple times on Boston’s 92.5 The River and Sirius XM’s The Loft as well as dozens of local stations from Maine to Florida. She has played Boston’s House of Blues, Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Shalin Liu in Rockport, MA, Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and more. She has opened for many artists such as Chris Isaak, Mavis Staples, Belinda Carlisle, Roger McGuinn, and Tom Chapin.

Berry was a 2016 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist and has been a student of American songwriting legends such as Dave Van Ronk, Janis Ian, Susan Werner, and Ellis Paul.

Details Date: December 14 Time: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Cost: $30.00

The Herland Brothers are an acclaimed country rock band from the suburbs of Boston.  At the core of the band includes 3 brothers, John on Lead Vocals, Scott on Guitar & Vocals, and Frank on Keys/Acoustic Guitar & Vocals.  Joining the brothers include veteran Boston musicians Dan McGrath on Bass and Drummer Dickie Paris.

Whether headlining or sharing the bill with national artists such as Joe Nichols, Jerrod Niemann, Randy Houser, Tyler Farr, Uncle Kracker, Pat Green, or Bret Michaels to name a few, HB’s high energy performances continue to wow and electrify audiences all over New England.   Blending today’s top country hits along with their own original rockin’ country music has been a formula for success.  This has lead to a feature on WCVB TV show “Chronicle”, a Jägermeister sponsorship, and the Boston Globe to write “A band on the rise with a bright future”.

Machaca’s $1,000 Singer Songwriter Challenge

March 13th 8pm

The ORIGINAL $1,000 Singer-Songwriter Challenge returns on Wednesday, February 13th at our new home, Machaca! Now starting weekly at 8pm, 8 singer-songwriters will perform 3 songs each before a panel of live judges. See some of New England’s hottest new performers each Wednesday at Machaca. ABOUT THE CHALLENGE: Machaca presents the $1,000 Singer-Songwriter Challenge: an 8-week, performance event open to all musicians. Starting in early February 2019, this weekly event will select a finalist at the end of each night for 7 weeks. On the 8th week, all of the weekly finalists come together and perform for a piece of the $1,000 cash prize. Sign up by emailing your name, phone number and whether you are a solo artist, duo, trio, etc. to clangathianos@me.com. How it works: This weekly event, hosted by Chris Langathianos, will showcase musicians – solo performers, duos, trios & bands (no drums as setups must take less than 5 minutes) – allowing them to perform up to 3 songs. Performers will play before a panel of judges. The judges panels will change from week to week and will be made up of local musicians, business owners, etc. After each performance, judges will provide their live feedback to the performer and audience. A confidential score card will be kept, and a weekly winner will be announced at the end of the evening. After the 7 weeks of preliminaries, all 7 finalists and 1 wild card will return for week 8 to perform 3 songs – at least 1 MUST BE AN ORIGINAL – before a panel of celebrity judges. 3 winners will be selected and will go home with a piece of the $1,000 cash prize. 1st place / $700, 2nd / $200, and 3rd / $100. Other details: 1. Performers may participate on a weekly basis but may only win one week. 2. In the event of high demand for performance spots, the event host reserves the right to move previous performers further down the list. 3. All audio equipment is provided – PA, microphones, stands, and monitors. Sign Ups: Performers may register for a performance slot by emailing Chris Langathianos at clangathianos@me.com or through this Facebook page

ABOUT THE BAND
Alligator Wine is made up of an all-star cast of characters from Lowell, MA music scene. The intention of this outfit is to re-interpret the music of the Grateful Dead and apply our own signature to the music that has so inspired us all over the years. While each member of the project has enjoyed success in various musical genres all over the eastern half of the country, we’ve all come home to the friends and music that we love.

Saturday 9pm ~Dis N Dat Trio

ABOUT THE BAND
Formed in 1999 by four time grammy nominated Black Uhuru drummer ‘Rangotan and 6 time steel pan champion Sista D, Dis-N-Dat has a unique sound, setting us apart from all the rest. Dis-N-Dat incorporates Roots Reggae, Dance Hall and R&B in to a sound all our own known as Neo-Reggae, moving audiences all over the U.S. for almost 20 years. We take the reggae to a new level, at the same time rocking the foundation sound that so many are looking for.

The band has backed many international artists that include Queen Africa, Tony Rebel, Anthony B, Turbulence, Everton Blender, Sister Nancy, Yami Bolo, Lady Saw, Sasha and many more! The band also backed UK Reggae superstar Pato Banton for several tours across the United States.

Jan 26 Primal Roots – The Deep Well Sat 8 PM

Details

Welcome to the next Primal roots. Once again we are stepping outside of the boundaries and norms (of what a dance should be) so that we can go deeper into our truths. As human beings we are always finding and redefining ourselves. And Primal Roots will follow this thread too, allowing us to release our expectations and fixed ideas of how things should be. We are talking about our generational timelines, about our past, but also the present. How do we draw from that deep well? The water of Life and Mystery. Some of this we can experience through our words, but much of this is found in our direct experience of the world, aside from words. We can find it in movement and creative expression. We can find it in connection to others. After our welcoming Circle, we will begin the night with our great friend John Sprague who will preview his “Global Heart Medicine Show” (John will return later this year for the full show). After that we will begin the dance with some ceremonial drumming and an ongoing Art Project, followed by some primal music, sounds, and ecstatic dancing.
