UP COMING EVENTS

mark erelli

7 Central, in conjunction with Single Tree Music, introduces our all-new SONGWRITERS SERIES. This new series will present some of the country’s best singer-songwriters upstairs in our 7UP room.

Our first show features Mark Erelli – a nationally-recognized performer, writer, and producer.

Tickets are just $15 and available with the host stand, by calling 978-526-7494 or at www.brownpapertickets.com.

About Mark Erelli:

When questioned about his musical heroes as younger artist, Mark Erelli would dutifully rattle off names like Jackson Browne and John Hiatt—the sort of emotionally literate lyricist and soulful vocalist to which he was oft-compared. But Erelli would always throw the interviewer a curveball byalso listing musicians like David Lindley and Ry Cooder, two sidemen closely associated with Browne and Hiatt’s best albums. “As a teenager I sat in front of my stereo for hours, in hopes of learning to write songs like that,” remembers Erelli, “but I also tried to learn the guitar solos on those records note for note.”

Thousands of musical miles later, Mark Erelli now travels his own road that both embodies and challenges our expectations of a singer/songwriter. Erelli has tackled everything from western swing and protest songs to lullabies and murder ballads, all in a richly expressive voice that Twangville.com heralds as “the male counterpart to Neko Case.” It is a journey that has taken Erelli from church basement coffeehouses to the main stage of the Newport Folk Festival, stopping briefly along the way to sing the national anthem at Fenway Park.

Erelli still indulges that teenage fascination with the guitar solos, though it has evolved into a career as an in-demand multi-instrumentalist sideman. These days, fans are just as likely to find Erelli backing up Lori McKenna at the Grand Ole Opry, or Josh Ritter at London’s Royal Albert Hall, as they are to see a solo acoustic performance at venerable listening rooms like Harvard Square’s Club Passim. Some might see chasing both a timeless lyric and an exquisite lap steel guitar solo as mutually exclusive endeavors, but not Erelli.

The last year alone has seen Erelli fronting the bluegrass band Barnstar!, backing up Grammy™ Award-winning songwriters like Paula Cole, or branching into the producer role for Lori McKenna’s next record, in between performing solo shows everywhere from New England to Nebraska. For casual listeners that prefer artists who churn out variations on the same theme year after year, Mark Erelli presents a bit of a dilemma.

“I don’t know anyone who likes just one type of music,” says Erelli. “There are so many people that would jump at the chance to play music for a living. I’m lucky enough to actually get to do it, and I intend to follow it wherever it leads me.” It’s just that kind of attitude that may someday find a teenager listening intently to one of Mark Erelli’s songs blaring out of stereo, trying to figure out how he did it all, and did it all so well.

Single Tree Music Presents:

Toronto singer-songwriter, Ken Yates, and Gloucester singer-songwriter, Fozzie Hill, share a very special double bill of songs and stories at the Manchester Community Center in picturesque Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.

Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and beverages to this performance.

About Ken Yates:

Born and Raised in London, Ontario, Ken Yates moved to Boston to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music. It was there that he developed his skills as a songwriter, releasing his first album, “The Backseat EP”, and received the opportunity to play a song for one of his biggest influences, John Mayer. Mayer then posted a full page blog about Yates’ ability as a writer stating, “Ken Yates wrote a song called ‘I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love’ this song moved me when I first heard it and still does today”. Yates’ EP received high critical acclaim, leading to a slew of online covers from fans. He has toured with many notable names including veteran singer/songwriter and mentor, Livingston Taylor, Sister Hazel, Peter Katz, and Liz Longley and has songs in heavy rotation on Sirius XM’s The Coffee House where he was nominated for The Coffee House Songwriter Discovery of the Year. He was recently chosen as The 2014 Colleen Peterson Award winner by the Ontario Arts Council for his song “The One That Got Away”.

“Want to hear a great song? (I mean a REALLY great song?)” John Mayer, one forty plus taking about Yate’s “I Don’t Want to Fall in Love”

“Ken Yates’ music is solid as stone and clear as mountain air he proves the future is in very good shape” Livingston Taylor

www.kenyates.com

About Fozzie Hill:

Fozzie Hill is about as authentic as one can be. Born and forever rooted in Gloucester, her ambition from the age of seven, when she first remembers being drawn into the deep mystery of the human voice, has been to ” release that power inside” of herself.

When friends and neighbors insisted that she share her gift, and after a dear friend challenged her to learn three songs on guitar, and when she did, gifted her with that guitar- (her first,) she began performing as a young woman in the 1970 and 80s in Boston at the Cantab Lounge, Johnny D’s, the Tam.

Now, decades later, with a CD (“AKA Fozzie, Alberta Hill,” 2003) produced by Geoffrey Richon and Rose Osborne and many of those Gloucester friends who “cared enough to get under my skin,” Fozzie is again performing her intuitive, soulful music, as a popular regular at Gloucester’s Rhumbline with her bass player Wolf Ginandes.

She turns a barroom into a listening room with her own covers and original songs influenced by a diverse array of musicians such as Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, Donovan, John Sebastian, Ferron, and the Rolling Stones.

Boston-area bluesman Larry Carsman recently said of Fozzie Hill, ” Count me in as new member of Fozzie’s fan club. She was so magical, I felt transformed.”

Badfinger featuring Joey Molland

Opener: Brooks Young Band

Saturday

 8:00pm

Larcom Theatre
13 Wallis St, Beverly, Ma.
(978) 922-6313

Badfinger

Tickets Available  @ gimmelive.com
British Invasion rock stars, Badfinger, kick off GIMMELIVE’s highly anticipated third season at Beverly’s fully-restored, historic Larcom Theatre, performing ONE NIGHT ONLY. Hand picked by The Beatles, Badfinger was the first group signed to the Beatles’ label, Apple Records and their first #1 hit “Come And Get It” was written by Paul McCartney!

George Harrison and Paul McCartney produced a string of world-wide Badfinger hits, including “No Matter What,” “Day After Day,” “Without You” and “Baby Blue”, which hit the charts again in 2013 on the Breaking Bad soundtrack.

Still led by founder Joey Molland, who performed on George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” album and John Lennon’s “Imagine” album, Badfinger’s high energy concerts continue to thrill audiences world-wide.

Don’t miss Badfinger’s only Boston area stop on their U.S. Tour at Beverly’s intimate, acoustically spectacular Larcom Theatre.

Brooks Young Band will open the show. Hailing from Salem, MA, Brooks Young Band saturate their songs with rock and roll edge and blues feel, going for a direct, emotional and powerful sonic blend.
Brooks’ searing guitar leads and soulful vocal performances lock in perfectly with the solid rhythm section, creating an inspirational and uplifting sonic texture along the lines of influential performers such as Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews.
The Brooks Young Band has toured extensively throughout New England, sharing the stage with icons such as B.B. King, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, The Wallflowers, and Boyd Tinsley of Dave Matthews Band. They have also had the privilege of performing for Vice President Joe Biden.

BLUE OYSTER CULT w/ Gary Hoey

blue oyseter cult

For over four decades, Blue Öyster Cult has been thrilling fans of intelligent hard rock worldwide with powerful albums loaded with classic songs. Indeed, the Long Island, NY-‐based band is revered within the hard rock scene for its pioneering work. Blue Öyster Cult occupies a unique place in rock history because it’s one of very few hard rock bands to earn both genuine mainstream critical acclaim as well as commercial success.

BÖC’s canon includes three stone-‐cold classic songs that will waft through the cosmos long after the sun has burned out: The truly haunting “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” from 1976’s Agents of Fortune, the pummeling “Godzilla” from 1977’s Spectres and the hypnotically melodic “Burnin’ for You” from 1981’s Fire of Unknown Origin.

Other notable BÖC songs include “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll,” “Then Came the Last Days of May,” “I Love the Night,” “In Thee,””Veteran of the Psychic Wars,” “Dominance and Submission,” “Astronomy,” “Black Blade” and “Shooting Shark.”

The intense creative vision of BÖC’s original core duo of vocalist/lead guitarist Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, and vocalist/rhythm guitarist Eric Bloom are complemented by Richie Castellano on guitar and keyboards, and the longtime rhythm section of bass guitarist Kasim Sulton, and drummer Jules Radino.

Opening for Blue Oyster Cult is Gary Hoey, world renowned rock guitarist, who has a collection of 18 albums to his credit, a number five Billboard rock hit with “Hocus Pocus” and who is listed as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time. His career has taken him on tours where he traded licks with legends Jeff Beck, Brian May of Queen, Ted Nugent, Joe Satriani, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, Styx, Stevie Vai, Peter Frampton and Dick Dale. Hoey’s latest release, “Living Like a Runaway” which he co-wrote and produced with Metal Queen, Lita Ford, has received rave reviews.

~

The Early Show returns to The Rhumb Line on Saturday, October 17th with Joe Wilkins & Chris Langathianos hosting. The afternoon’s special guest will be the one & only Mike O’Connell.

Join Chris, Joe, Mike and the Rhumb Line team as the afternoon musical fun returns to Railroad Avenue for the Fall and Winter season.
