CONCERT EVENT – An Evening With Patty Larkin (Fri. Apr. 3 @ 8:00pm)
By Robert Newton on January 5, 2015
Learn more about Patty Larkin.Patty Larkin redefines the boundaries of folk-urban pop music with her inventive guitar wizardry and uncompromising vocals and lyrics. Acoustic Guitar hails her “soundscape experiments” while Rolling Stone praises her “evocative and sonic shading.” She has been described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune), “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly) and a “drop-dead brilliant” performer (Performing Songwriter).
Larkin grew up in a musical and artistic family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Descended from a long line of Irish American singers and taletellers, her mother was a painter, her sisters both musicians. She learned at a young age to appreciate the beauty of the arts. She began classical piano studies at age 7, and became swept up in the sounds of pop and folk in the 60s, teaching herself the guitar and experimenting with songwriting in high school. An English major, Larkin sang throughout her high school and college career, starting out in coffeehouses in Oregon and San Francisco. Upon graduation from the University of Oregon, she moved to Boston and devoted herself to music, busking on the streets of Cambridge and studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music and with Boston area jazz guitarists.

Bluegrass Jam & Barn Jam (style wide open)
Sundays
Acoustic Jam Sessions Invitation
Slow Jam Tuesdays 7:30 – 9:30 pm $15
Barn Jam (style wide open) 1st & 3rd Sunday 2 – 5 Free
Bluegrass Jam 2nd & 4th Sunday 2 – 5 Free
Bluegrass Jam! …. Do you love that high lonesome sound, that infectious toe tapping rhythm? Bluegrass Pickers you know who you are, so grab your instrument and come down to Dliamond Cove Music this Sunday.
The session will run 2-5 and is limited to 12 musicians’ seats. I’ve got room to have two jam sessions going at once which should help a lot! When you get more than 6 or 7 musicians jamming, it is usually neither satisfying for the musicians nor for any listeners. It just requires too much restraint. With two jams going at once, I can encourage enthusiasts of any ability to attend, and feel confident they should be able to get in on a session where they will feel comfortable. If you are having problems or have any suggestions, please let me know.
With a 12-seat limit, they’re sure to be snatched up quickly, so register today! If you reserve a seat in advance I will make sure you have a seat when you arrive. Musicians do come and go, so even if all seats have been reserved, come anyway and we will probably have room for you at some point.
RESERVE YOUR SEAT by emailing tom@diamondcovemusic.com
Listeners – please find a spot in the front half of the main room.
Customers – I’m open throughout the jam, but checking out new istruments is probably best done before and after the jam.
Musicians – I can’t offer loaner instruments for the jams. Cases must go into the rack or stacked just through door to 2nd room. Click to see proper etiquette.

Thursday – 8:30-11:30 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party with Bob Davis AKA ” Johnny Carwash
This Thursday let’s welcome back Gloucester’s own Bobby Davis aka Johnny Carwash for another groovy night of surf toons and other related guitar ruminations. Bobby’s the best! With his effervescent style he’ll have you on the floor writhing with abandon. Along with David “Doc” Vincent on the skins, the circle is complete. We’ll be re-creating all your memories that were playing on your 8-track while you were losing your virginity. Don’t miss it!
And Sunday, from 6 to 9, I’ll be assisting at a radioactive Easter egg hunt with my Geiger counter and such wonderful musicians as Chris Brown, Joe Bargar and Bob Dallas. We’ll be holding up at O’Rielly’s Bar in downtown Newton from 6 to 9. Stop by on the way back from the rest home.

Thursday – 8:30-11:30 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party with Brian Templeton
I’m sick. I’ve been diagnosed with thrombosis of the gnosis. And it’s all my fault.
To make amends I’ve got to get down with Mr. Brian Templeton, harpist galore and weeper of the flame. We just pulled him out of the muddy water and gave him free reign to oil all your moving parts. He’s coming! And this Kat can sing and captivate you effortlessly. He’s the only Kat I know who can wear overalls and make you believe it. You won’t want to miss it.
He’s bringing along the ferocious and mighty Billy Loosigian, the catarrhist among Qatarists, the most electrifying stylists I know, as well as that carbuncle- inducing master of the drums: Mr. David Mattacks. Shangri-La, here we come!
And, remember, folks, try Dave Sag’s Blooze Party Detergent® for all your catharsis needs. It’s 30% more effective than the leading Blooze Party with less egotistical soloing and more danceable grooves. Just pour our gloppy mess directly on all your human stains and watch our secret ingredients assuage all your honky guilt and related angst. Works for me.

Thursday – 8:30-11:30 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party with Tim Gartland
Dave says,
It’s Snowbank Removal Week as temperatures threaten to climb into the Forties. I loved my forties, when I was at the peak of my insanity, rather than being the recondite cretin that I am now: talking to pigeons and wiping saliva off my chin. But enough about me: what about that finger in your eye music happening on Thursday? And that guy who had a seizure whilst skydiving? What’s the big deal? Happens to me all the time….
So, this Thursday let’s have a ball with a sorta new guy: Mr. Tim Gartland. He’s been here before. He’s really talented and deserves your rabid attention. Tim hails from Cleveland, where he was arrested for arson after setting the Cuyahoga river on fire. Now he’s gonna torch your cerebellum with his swingfoot style of harp and vogelsang. He’s got a really cool voice, sort of a cross between Arthur Prysock and Arthur Prysock. With hints of mint courtesy of Metamucil Pete, my street connection.
Backing him up will be that plisky, spoon-bending master of glitar, Mr. Jon Ross. Trader Joe’s secret weapon. Jon is one of my favorite musicians. Fluent on Guitar, bass and drums. drives a cool ’92 Buick Wagon, too. What’s not to like? Drums beaten by Mr. Jeff Casper, the friendly drummer. I’m on bass, trying once again to steal second. C’mon down and have a good time. It’ll be warm! You might even find a parking spot!
And, don’t forget: Next Monday The Old Saltys will be controlling the universe from our secret base hidden at the Rose Baker Senior Center in downtown Gloucester. From 1 to 3, we will be controlling transmission. You ought to see these guys before it’s too late and your prune juice stock tanks on NASDAC. I really mean it: it’s the best show in town.
